Benedicte Bachelot, an assistant professor in the Department of Plant Biology, Ecology and Evolution, came to Oklahoma State University in August 2020. This is her first tenure track position, and this was her first time applying for a National Science Foundation grant. And she got it.

Biochemistry and Microbiology double major Sergio Mares named an Outstanding Senior

Sergio Mares — who moved to Stillwater from Mexico at age 16 — will graduate with dual degrees in Biochemistry and Microbiology/Cell and Molecular Biology, along with minors in Spanish, Chemistry and Plant Biology. As if earning multiple degrees wasn’t hard enough, he also worked full time doing construction, painting and home remodeling during what proved to be a “financially stressful” 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After escaping Oregon wildfire, former OSU professors look to the future

Lewis planting a future in medicine

It was no surprise that as Annagrace Lewis began considering college majors, she was naturally drawn to Plant Biology as she saw the versatility of plants from makeup to medication. With her eyes on a holistic medical career, Lewis expanded her knowledge with two additional majors. Now, Lewis will graduate this month with a triple major: Zoology, Biology, and her first love, Plant Biology.

Watson, four other female scientists produce comprehensive analysis of sunflower family

Linda Watson, an Oklahoma State University professor in the Department of Plant Biology, Ecology, and Evolution, is one of five female scientists who have produced a comprehensive analysis of genomic-scale data to understand the historical biogeography of the Asteraceae, also known as the sunflower or daisy family. Watson, president of the Botanical Society of America, collaborated with researchers from the University of Memphis and the Smithsonian Institution to publish “A fully resolved backbone phylogeny reveals numerous dispersals and explosive diversifications throughout the history of Asteraceae” in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.

Combining dance and science

At Oklahoma State University, Alannah Templon has been on a part of the OSU Dance Company and also the OSU Tap Company. She has even served as president of the OSU Dance Company for the last two years. She has double majors in biology and sociology with a minor in dance.
