School of Media and Strategic Communications alumnus commits largest gift in program history

To give back to the university he loves deeply, Keith Garton and his partner, David Sheehan, have committed the largest single gift ever directed to the OSU School of Media and Strategic Communications. The gift will establish the Garton Family Endowed Chair for Media and Strategic Communications, as well as endowed funds for rural journalism and student organizations.

As the hub of life sciences at Oklahoma State University, the College of Arts and Sciences is committed to research that bridges disciplines and creates breakthroughs for the betterment of societies around the world. Sum-thing Special: OSU High School Math Day fosters community of learning

For over 10 years, Oklahoma State University’s Department of Mathematics has hosted High School Math Day, welcoming nearly 200 students annually from schools across the region to Stillwater’s campus. “Math is an incredibly useful and exciting way to understand the world,” said Dr. Jeff Mermin, associate professor of mathematics and High School Math Day coordinator. “Too often, classroom math feels like memorizing formulas, but step outside that standard curriculum and there’s so much to discover.”

Renaissance Ready: OSU Arts Week returns after 45-year hiatus

For the first time since the 1970s, Stillwater saw the return of OSU Arts Week — a celebration of the visual, performing and applied arts at Oklahoma State University. The OSU Arts Committee led the initiative, with key support from the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Theatre, Greenwood School of Music, and Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History.

Physics and Math secure $3M NSF grant to train next-gen quantum and AI workforce

On Aug. 1, Dr. Ty Hawkins officially started as the newest member of the College of Arts and Sciences leadership team at Oklahoma State University. After a successful nationwide search, CAS hired Hawkins for the role of associate dean for academic programs. He most recently held the position of director for the University of Central Arkansas’ School of Language and Literature.

OSU wins bid to host International Physicists’ Tournament in 2026

For the first time in its history, the International Physicists’ Tournament will be hosted in the United States — at Oklahoma State University. In May 2026, around 200 faculty and students from 21 universities in Europe, South and Central America, Africa and Asia will come to Stillwater to compete in the “World Cup of undergraduate physics research,” said Dr. Flera Rizatdinova, head of the OSU Department of Physics.

Geology faculty, students set sail on NSF-funded research expedition to Labrador Sea

Two faculty members and two graduate students from Oklahoma State University’s Boone Pickens School of Geology recently returned from a 5-week international research expedition aboard the R/V Roger Revelle, a research vessel operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography. From June to July, the OSU team of Dr. Ashley Burkett, Dr. Natascha Riedinger, Amanda Harding and Monica Hinson joined 29 scientists from 12 institutions to collect sediment and seawater samples across the Labrador Sea. The expedition was part of a National Science Foundation-funded project “A Porewater Perspective on Benthic Sources of Neodymium to the North Atlantic” and focused on how seawater chemistry is both preserved in and influenced by seafloor sediments.
