OSU, Redlands agreement simplifies transfer opportunities for community college students

Oklahoma State University and Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla., recently signed transfer agreements to assist students earning an associate’s degree in business administration to easily transfer to OSU for completion of a bachelor’s degree.

New head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management brings energy, vision to the role

For Dr. Brij Thapa, moving to Oklahoma with his family in September to take over as the head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) at Oklahoma State University was a major life change. He had never been to the state before and even interviewed for the position virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic. And he bought his Stillwater home without seeing it in person. Despite a lack of time spent on the ground in Oklahoma, Thapa said the opportunity was too great to pass up.

OSU joins research studying robotic nurse assistants

Oklahoma State University researchers will share a $1.5 million National Science Foundation grant with engineering faculty from the University of Louisville to study using robots to help nurses care for hospital patients. Dr. Bryan Edwards, associate professor of management at the Spears School of Business, and Dr. William Paiva, executive director of the OSU Center for Health Systems Innovation, will receive $500,000 in the joint project.

Spears Business enrollment strong

Oklahoma State University business students returned to campus in strong numbers this fall despite concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. Fall 2020 Spears School of Business enrollment increased 4 percent, or 202 students, for the Stillwater campus compared to fall 2019. Impressively, returning undergraduate enrollment at Stillwater was up nearly 5 percent based on numbers from Sept. 1.

OSU researchers model COVID-19 mortality risk

An analysis of digital health records from thousands of COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals around the country has led to the development of technology to predict the risk of death for those with COVID. Researchers at the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Systems Innovation (CHSI) in Tulsa and Stillwater are using digital health data to build predictive models of disease risk that could improve treatment and outcomes.

Music major to microbrewery owner

Craig Wensell graduated from Oklahoma State in 1998 with a music performance degree before embarking on a journey that included a master’s in music performance, teaching at both the high school and collegiate level, and a tour with the Army in Afghanistan. Upon returning from Afghanistan, Wensell decided to go into home-brewing and has since started two successful businesses.
