NAE selects OSU team to represent U.S. at the 2019 Global Grand Challenges Summit

The U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE) selected an OSU team among five teams and an alternative team to represent the United States in a business plan competition at the 2019 Global Grand Challenges Summit in London on September 12-18, 2019. This is the first time OSU has been selected at this level.

Graham sees science and art in dentistry

Caroline Graham decided she wanted to be a researcher as a young girl. She was inspired by a National Geographic article about the study of microbes in the ice of Antarctica. The recent Oklahoma State University graduate is headed to the University of Oklahoma’s College of Dentistry. She completed an Honors College degree in May with a double major in microbiology/cell and molecular biology, and biochemistry, along with minors in chemistry and accounting. Among the many awards she earned were College of Arts and Sciences Top 10 Seniors and recognition among the OSU Alumni Association’s 15 Outstanding Seniors.

Julie Angle receives science education award

Dr. Julie Angle, associate professor in science education and Bill and Billie Dean Buckles Innovation in Teaching Endowed Professor, is the recipient of the 2019 Jack Renner Distinguished Service to Oklahoma Science Education Award from the Oklahoma Science Teachers Association. Angle received the award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of science education in Oklahoma, at the organization’s annual summer conference earlier this month.

It was natural for Emily Fry to become a scholar at Oklahoma State University, where her parents are both leaders. Her mother, Pamela, is OSU-Tulsa's president. Her father, Don, is director of technology for the College of Education, Health and Aviation. Fry recently completed her biological science/pre-health degree, earning significant honors for her accomplishments, including recognition as one of the OSU Alumni Association’s 15 Outstanding Seniors and as a College of Arts and Sciences Top 10 Senior.

The team’s three-minute video, “Towards Increasing Native American Engineering Faculty,” highlights research about the factors that promote Native Americans’ entry and persistence into engineering and the engineering professorate.
