Graphic design students unveil mural honoring former Stillwater mayor

A semester’s worth of work was put on display in Stillwater’s Chris Salmon Plaza on May 1, with the unveiling of Oklahoma State University graphic design students’ mural “Building Sunshine.” The mural — which highlights the life and work of former Stillwater mayor Christine Salmon — was designed by OSU freshman Carlee Roddy. Roddy worked with her fellow Visual Thinking Image and Surface 2D classmates to execute the design.

Three integrative biology grad students recognized by the National Science Foundation

Annual Student Juried Exhibition opens at OSU’s Gardiner Gallery of Art

The 42nd Annual Student Juried Exhibition is now open at the Gardiner Gallery of Art in the Bartlett Center on Oklahoma State University’s Stillwater campus. Open to students from all levels of undergraduate studies in studio art and graphic design, the highly competitive juried exhibition celebrates the artistic excellence achieved by students while at OSU. The exhibition showcases artworks by 48 students spanning each discipline within the Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History, with pieces ranging from motion animation to ceramic sculpture.

OSU English professor uses National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship to research WWII radio, television

Oklahoma State University professor Stacy Takacs was awarded and has completed a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) fellowship. A professor in the Department of English and the American Studies program, Dr. Takacs was selected to work on her manuscript ‘We Bring You Home’: The American Forces Network and US Militarism Post-WWII. The book examines the 80-year history of the American Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS or also known as AFN), which supplied news, entertainment and command information to U.S. military personnel overseas.

Microbiology Ph.D. student receives Norman Durham Endowed Fellowship

College of Arts and Sciences student Carrie Pratt was recently awarded the Norman Durham Endowed Fellowship for the second year in a row. Pratt, a second-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, has been interested in studying microbiomes for several years. Originally from Germany, she pursued a degree in biology from the University of North Dakota and later received her master’s in entomology and plant pathology from Oklahoma State University.

Oklahoma State University student Gina Errico has been awarded the Katherine S. McCarter Graduate Student Policy Award (GSPA) by the Ecological Society of America (ESA).   Errico, who received her undergraduate degree from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), is a master’s student in the Department of Plant Biology, Ecology and Evolution (PBEE).

Summer in Bozeman: How an OSU theatre professor is impacting rural arts engagement

In the summer of 2022, Eric Barker, an Oklahoma State University assistant professor of scenic design, found himself with a Research Jumpstart/Accelerator Grant (RJAG) but nowhere to spend it; his original plans to work with the Richmond Shakespeare festival in Richmond, Indiana, had fallen through.   The RJAG grant is designed to aid faculty in getting their research up and running following the COVID-19 pandemic. Barker knew he needed to find another research project and did just that, landing the chance to work with Montana Shakespeare in the Parks (MSIP) in Bozeman, Montana.

OSU to host annual speech-language pathology conference

Oklahoma State University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is hosting its annual Cimarron Conference on Communication Disorders (CCCD) to help speech-language pathologists better assist clients. CCCD will be from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. April 1 at the Wes Watkins Center on the OSU-Stillwater campus. The conference will focus on “Transitional Barriers and Solutions for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students in Schools,” with Dr. Jack S. Damico as the featured speaker.

Four College of Arts and Sciences seniors receive top honors from the OSU Alumni Association

Four seniors from Oklahoma State University’s College of Arts and Sciences have been named 2022-2023 Outstanding Seniors by the OSU Alumni Association. The Outstanding Seniors award recognizes students who show excellence through academic achievement; campus and community involvement; academic, athletic or extracurricular honors or awards; scholarships; and work ethic during their time at OSU. The College of Arts and Sciences 2022-2023 honorees are Jacquelyn Harsha, Manoj Jagadeesh, Morgyn Wynne and Sarah Ziehme.
