Eye for an Eye: Psychology’s Sznycer and Wee publish work on laws about bodily damage

The Bible’s lex talionis, “Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot” (Exodus 21:24), has captured the human imagination for millennia. This idea served as a model for ensuring justice when bodily harm was inflicted. But where did such laws originate? A recent study by Yunsuh Nike Wee, Daniel Sznycer and Jaimie Arona Krem sheds light on this question, revealing links between laws about bodily damage and shared intuitions about the value of body parts.

Chemistry and chemical engineering biomedical team's work recognized on research journal covers

Oklahoma State University’s Dr. Gopan Krishnan of the Department of Chemistry and Dr. Joshua Ramsey of the School of Chemical Engineering — along with their teams of students — recently published NIH-funded biomedical research that garnered the attention of two prestigious journals. The American Chemical Society (ACS) journal, ACS Measurement Science, featured “Colorimetric Hybridization Sensor for DNA Mimic of a SARS-CoV-2 RNA Marker: Direct and Inverse Bioanalysis” as a supplementary cover in September 2024 and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Journal, Sensors and Diagnostics put “Visual Colorimetric Insulin Detection in Human Serum” on its October 2024 cover.

Leaving a Legacy: SMSC senior shares experiences of being a Black journalist at OSU

When sports media major Steve Spears came to OSU as a sophomore, it was only three weeks before he was on camera. “It didn’t go great,” Spears said with a laugh. Luckily he’s had many more opportunities to not only hone his craft, but also help future and incoming journalists along the way: for two years, Spears has been president of OSU’s National Association of Black Journalists, building a community and creating opportunities for his fellow media majors.
