OSU-CHS partners with TU’s STRETCHED Program for area high school students

More than 70 sophomores from Tulsa-area high schools recently got to spend the day on the OSU Center for Health Sciences campus learning how to take a patient’s vitals, doing chest compressions, listening for heart sounds, touring the inside of an ambulance, and learning about osteopathic manipulative medicine.

Joint research study found Native American teens underrepresented in CDC database

A team from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Cherokee Nation and the University of Oklahoma-University of Tulsa School of Community Medicine studied how teens who self-reported as American Indian/Alaska Natives were reclassified using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

USA BMX athletic trainer excited by opportunities, challenges of new sport

Luke Akande is one of the first dedicated athletic trainers for BMX, bicycle motocross, the sport where riders race on dirt tracks with jumps and turns that showcase athletes’ speed and style. He recently joined OSU Sports Medicine and works full-time for USA BMX out of the headquarters in Tulsa.

Atkins-Weltman, an anatomy and vertebrate paleontology Ph.D. student in the School of Biomedical Sciences, was studying a small collection of foot and leg bone fossils of what was believed to be a juvenile Anzu wyliei, but histology tests of the bones determined that it was actually a new species.
