Looking out at the thousands of American flags on the Oklahoma State University Library Lawn is a shocking sight. Even more shocking is the knowledge that each flag represents an actual person, a veteran who gave their life for their country.

Each year Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine hosts a Veterans Day Observance. Dr. Jerry Ritchey, alumnus (CVM ’91) and professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, shared a story with attendees about his grandfather, who was killed in action in France during World War II. Ritchey didn’t know much about his grandfather and set out on a journey to find out who he was and what he did.

The Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine will host a remembrance ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in the McElroy Hall Auditorium to honor all veterans, especially military veterinarians. OSU College of Veterinary Medicine’s students, faculty and alumni have a long history of serving in the military.
