Jury Ensz graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2016 with a Master of Science in Teaching, Learning and Leadership, option in reading and literacy. An eight-year teaching veteran, Ensz currently teaches English language to students ages kindergarten to fifth grade at Timber Ridge Elementary School in Broken Arrow, Okla.

College of Education, Health and Aviation launches doctoral program in Belize

The Oklahoma State University College of Education, Health and Aviation launched a new doctoral program in Belize last month, with 20 Belizean students pursuing a Doctor of Education from OSU. The degree option, which focuses on language, literacy and culture, is designed to train those who currently work within the country’s education system to be experts in literacy education.

Two faculty appointed co-executive directors for national science and mathematics association

Two Oklahoma State University College of Education, Health and Aviation faculty members were recently appointed co-executive directors for the School of Science and Mathematics Association (SSMA). Dr. Toni Ivey, associate professor of science education, and Dr. Stephanie Hathcock, assistant professor of science education, began their five-year term on July 1, 2019.

Shedding light on local history: Teaching about the Tulsa Race Massacre

Local teachers got some much-needed information and resources to help them teach their students about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, perhaps the darkest time in the city’s history. Nearly 20 teachers from Bartlesville, Glenpool, Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Union and other school districts took part in “Writing and Remembrance: Strategies for Teaching the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre” June 11-13 at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa.

Julie Angle receives science education award

Dr. Julie Angle, associate professor in science education and Bill and Billie Dean Buckles Innovation in Teaching Endowed Professor, is the recipient of the 2019 Jack Renner Distinguished Service to Oklahoma Science Education Award from the Oklahoma Science Teachers Association. Angle received the award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of science education in Oklahoma, at the organization’s annual summer conference earlier this month.
