OSUIT Sees 4.4 Percent Enrollment Increase, Retention Rates Rise

The total number of students enrolled for the fall 2017 semester is 2,502. A year ago that number was 2,397. According to the Office of Institutional Research, 64.4 percent of incoming freshman from fall 2016 returned to campus fall 2017. That’s a more than 8 percent increase from the 56.1 percent of incoming freshman in fall 2015 that returned in fall 2016.

Visual Communications Alum Next Featured Artist in Conoco Gallery

Wilhite graduated from the School of Visual Communications in 1980 not long after the name of the program changed from commercial art to graphic design. He worked as a graphic designer in Oklahoma City and is now senior art director at Ackerman McQueen.

Culinary Students Volunteer at Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show

Every year, Culinary Arts students volunteer their time during the two day event held during the Tulsa State Fair to help out with everything from loading and unloading cakes, running errands for organizers and cake artists, assisting during cooking demos, and monitoring the cakes while on display to the public.

OSUIT Alum Designs Winning Mural at Second Food for Thought Event

For the second consecutive year, Okmulgee native Carmen Taylor was selected as the winning muralist at the annual Food for Thought event Tuesday evening. Nearly 170 people from the Okmulgee and OSU Institute of Technology communities took part in the event. Four finalists presented their designs for the east wall of the Grand Old Post Office building, OSUIT’s newest student housing facility. Each attendee voted for their favorite and Taylor, an OSUIT alumna, was announced as this year’s winner.

Community Raises Money So Arts & Sciences Alum Can See

Jill Porter, an alumna of OSU Institute of Technology, was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, a condition that only allows her to see clearly a few inches from her eyes, so she is legally blind. Residents of Henryetta raised $10,000 in order to purchase special eSight glasses that allow Porter to have 20/20 vision.

OSUIT Partners with Community to Offer Okmulgee AirFest

Okmulgee AirFest is Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Okmulgee Regional Airport, 100 W. Airport Road. The cost is $5 per person or $10 per car or plane. Performances are scheduled to begin at noon.
